There are many grafting methods for mulberry trees. In the old mulberry garden transformation, two kinds of simple buds and root buds are usually adopted.
First, simple budding:
1, cut buds. Select the plump and strong winter buds on the cuttings. Firstly cut 1cm from the bottom of the bud. The knife and cuttings are cut smoothly into the xylem at a 35-degree angle and reach 1/5 of the cuttings. Then the knife is 0.5cm above the shoot tip. With a scion angle of 20 degrees, it cuts smoothly into the xylem, and reaches 1/5 of the depth of the cutting strip to the first cutting port, and the bud is removed. It is required that the noodles be smooth and have a proper woody part. The noodles should be clean and free of sediment.
2, cut rootstock. Saw stumps 10-15 cm from the ground to make the cuts smooth. Select the smooth cut at the trunk to cut into two pieces similar to the size of the bud, the length of the same.
3, take buds. After the rootstock is chopped, the sliced ​​buds will be cut to the xylem of the rootstock. The upper end should be aligned with the cut of the rootstock. If the buds are too narrow, they should be on one side; if the width is too wide, the two sides of the buds should be cut away slightly to make the buds. The incisions are adapted so that the formation of the rootstock and scion is aligned at least on one side.
4, dressing. After the buds are inserted, use the ready-made plastic film strips to tie them tightly from the bottom to the top of the interface. When tying the buds, the buds must be exposed to the outside until the interface section is completely wrapped. Then the plastic film strips are knotted. Note that the strapping connector must not leak.
Second, the root bud connection method (saw pile bud connection method)
The specific method of grafting is to dig the soil around the trunk of the mulberry tree to the border of blue and green (root and neck position), and then saw the tree trunk to make the sawn surface smooth without breaking the skin. Then, the cortex is opened with a knife around the keratoderm, and the cut buds are inserted. The method of cutting buds is the same as that of simple buds, except that the buds are slightly longer at the bottom. When inserting the buds, the buds will be faced and the noodles will be directed toward the skin of the bag mouth. After the buds are inserted, the plastic film and the plastic strips are used for banding to prevent the infiltration of rainwater and the dryness of the scion, thus affecting the survival.
No matter which method is adopted for the grafting transformation of the old mulberry garden, at least 4 or more grafted shoots are planted on each mulberry tree to ensure the output of the year.
