The study found that Chinese obesity levels have risen
In China, one out of every four adults is overweight. A new study shows that people's health is severely affected by eating more meat and dairy products.
A study published in the July/August issue of Health Affairs magazine showed that among all developing countries, only Mexico's overweight adults grew faster than China.
"If we don't take action, then this phenomenon in China today will happen in other countries tomorrow," said the author of the study, Barry Popkin, professor of nutrition at the Carolina Population Center at the University of Northern California.
“We should find the right way to encourage people to adopt a healthy lifestyle, or we will face higher mortality, prevalence, disability and all the costs that come with it,†he added.
The study shows that Chinese people consume more animal foods, such as meat and eggs, than in the past.
“China’s traditional diet – a lot of vegetables and carbohydrates supplemented with a small amount of animal food – no longer exists.â€
“In 2006, less than 1% of Chinese adults received more than 90% of their food in non-animal foods.â€
The study showed that changes in diet structure and lifestyle led to an increase in the incidence of cancer and cardiovascular disease in China. ——Midi Medical Network
