Zheng Guoan, secretary-general of the Ministry of Science and Technology, said on the 21st that China's biochip industry has grown and developed since its birth in 2000. At present, the total sales of biochips in China exceeds 300 million yuan. The biochips produced in China have been exported to 14 countries and regions such as the United States, Europe and Southeast Asia.
Zheng Guoan said at the first "Application Conference of Biochips in Medical and Food Security" held on the 21st, since 2000, China's biochips have obtained more than 20 national new drug certificates and medical device certificates; more than 400 domestic patents have been applied. More than 100 foreign patents; at the same time, there are nearly 400 kinds of biochips and related products, involving genes, proteins, cells and tissues.
Biotechnology is a high-tech that has developed rapidly in the field of life sciences in the late 1980s. A biochip of nail size that enables accurate, fast, and high-throughput detection of cells, proteins, genes, and other biological components. This technology has broad application prospects in the fields of disease prediction, disease prevention, new drug development, food safety, environmental monitoring, agricultural breeding and even judicial identification.
China attaches great importance to the development and application of biochip technology. Since 1997, the state has invested 500 million yuan to support biochip research and development, and established the National Engineering Research Center for Biochips and the National Engineering Research Center for Biochips in Shanghai.
In 2000, Biochip Beijing National Engineering Research Center was established in Beijing Zhongguancun Life Science Park. During the "10th Five-Year Plan" period, the center received more than 70 million yuan of research funding, and took the lead in realizing the breakthrough of China's biochip technology in the field of international patents.
So far, the center has applied for 109 patents, including 72 patent cooperation treaties and 99 invention patent applications. There are 48 patents granted in mainland China, including 38 invention patents; there are 20 invention patents in the United States, Japan and other countries and regions. In the conversion of patent results, the conversion rate reached 57.8%. The center independently developed a variety of products such as the core HLA gene typing chip detection system, and achieved commercialization.
