Herbs Seed Pre-treatment Six Methods

First, soaking: Seed soaked with herbs, cold water, warm water or cold, hot water alternately. Different herbs seeds, the soaking time and water temperature are also different: If the seeds of guagui, soaking in warm water for 24 hours; glutinous rice seeds need to be soaked in cold water 1 to 2 days and nights, and then select the full seeds into the sieve, immersed in boiling water When the seeds are all in the water, immediately lift the sieve to heat. After cooling, use the same method to soak the seeds again. Finally, rinse in cool water until the rinse water is not black. This method is effective for preventing glutinous rice smut.
Second, the sun seed: the seed will be thinly spread on bamboo mats and other items on the drying, seed drying time can be based on the characteristics of the seeds and the temperature conditions of the flexible master. After drying, it can kill germs on the seeds, reduce the incidence of diseases, accelerate seed germination and increase germination rate.
Third, the seed: a layer of wet sand in the container, and then sprinkle a thin layer of seed, then cover a layer of wet sand (how much depends on the number of seed layer), and finally covered and kept in the shade. This method is suitable for medicinal seeds with long dormancy period and germinating seeds under good conditions for keeping warm.
4. Refrigeration: The dormancy period of some medicinal seeds must be treated with low temperature to break and release, such as gentian, northern sea cucumber and so on. Before sowing seeds of this kind of herbs, the seed must be stored in the wet sand layer and put into the temperature of 0 ~ 5°C for low temperature refrigeration to enable the seeds of the medicinal material to germinate smoothly.
Fifth, broken shell: For the skin thick, hard shell seeds hard to soak in water, can take rubbing and other mechanical methods to break the skin, broken shell, promote seed germination. Such as licorice, Eucommia and other medicinal seeds. The seed coats of Astragalus and Peony are waxy. They can be rubbed with fine sand and then soaked in warm water of 35-40°C for about 24 hours. The germination rate can be significantly increased. Seeds of large medicinal herbs can also be soaked in water by seeding seed coats, seed pods, or cutting with a knife to promote their germination.
Sixth, human urine soaking: After selection of medicinal seeds, soaking human urine before sowing is best. There are two ways to do this:
1. The selected medicinal seeds are immersed in 50% of the decomposed human urine for 6 to 8 hours. After soaking, the seed is sowed with plant ash.
2. Soak the seeds of the selected medicinal herbs in the urine of 50% of the decomposer and soak them in the urine for 4 hours.
3. Precautions for human urine soaking: (1) Soaking time should be based on considerations such as human urine, maturity and size of seed particles. After the test, the soaking time can be determined. (2) The seeds should be soaked after soaking. Do not soak seeds after germination. (3) Human urine with high concentration and without sufficient maturity cannot be used for soaking.
