Brazil developed a fully implanted artificial heart

Release date: 2013-09-02

Recently, researchers at the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil and a cardiology research institute jointly developed the first domestically implanted artificial heart. The cost is much lower than the existing similar products, and the animal experiments carried out on the burdock are good, and it is expected to bring good news to many patients with heart failure with limited economic strength.
Brazilian researchers have been studying artificial heart since 2006. This artificial heart is the size of an orange, including a blood pump, circuit box, and charging pad. Project leader José Cardoso said that developed countries have fully implanted artificial heart, but the price is more than 80,000 US dollars, which is unbearable for ordinary patients. Brazil's domestic artificial heart estimate is only about 4,000 US dollars, which will greatly reduce Patient burden.
He said that the next phase of the research team will conduct more in vivo experiments and develop smaller-sized artificial hearts to compete with existing products in the market to meet the needs of patients.
