Firebolt processing is a traditional method commonly used in the production areas, known for its simplicity, cost-effectiveness, and practicality. It is particularly suitable for small-scale operations. The process begins by spreading a layer of plant ash inside a closed space. Fritillaria bulbs are then placed on top of the ash, with larger bulbs positioned at one end and smaller ones at the other. A second layer of ash is sifted over the bulbs to ensure even coverage. Once everything is set, the fire is gradually increased, and the temperature inside the container is raised until it becomes too hot to hold your hand near it for more than a few seconds (approximately 50°C to 55°C). After about 24 hours of baking, the Fritillaria should be fully dried. At this point, the ash is sifted away, and the bulbs are either further baked or left to air dry. This time-tested technique has been passed down through generations and remains a reliable method for preserving the quality of Fritillaria.
