Firebolt processing is a traditional method commonly used in production areas. It is simple, cost-effective, and practical, making it ideal for small-scale operations. The process begins by spreading a layer of plant ash inside a closed space. Fritillaria bulbs are then placed on top of the ash, with larger bulbs positioned near the fire head and smaller ones at the tip. A second layer of ash is sifted over the bulbs, and then the temperature is gradually increased. The heat is maintained until it becomes too hot to hold your hand near the container, typically reaching 50°C to 55°C. After about 24 hours of baking, the Fritillaria should be fully dried. Once done, the ash is sifted off, and the bulbs are either baked further or left to air dry. This method has been passed down through generations and remains a reliable technique for preserving the quality of Fritillaria.
