How to make flowers and trees

For Milan, flowers and trees such as honeysuckle, wax plum, sweet-scented osmanthus, camellia, azalea, and magnolia can all be propagated through cuttings. While auxins like naphthalene acetic acid are commonly used to encourage root development, there are also several simple, cost-effective techniques that gardeners can try at home. One effective method is using potassium permanganate. Soak the base of the cuttings in a 0.1% to 0.5% solution for 12 to 24 hours, then remove them immediately and let them dry slightly before planting. This helps prevent fungal infections and promotes healthy root growth. Another option is using a white sugar solution. For herbaceous plants, a 2% to 5% solution works well, while woody plants benefit from a stronger 5% to 10% concentration. Soak the cuttings in this solution for 24 hours, then rinse off any excess sugar with water before planting. Vitamin B12 can also be used. Dilute an injection of vitamin B12 with cold boiled water (in a 1:1 ratio), and soak the base of the cuttings for about five minutes. Afterward, let the cuttings dry slightly until the liquid is fully absorbed before placing them into the growing medium. Girdling is another technique that can improve rooting success. During the growing season, gently remove a ring of bark from the base of the branch. This encourages the plant to store more nutrients near the girdled area, which can help the cutting develop roots more easily when it's taken during dormancy. When propagating plants like camellias, osmanthus, or figs, it's helpful to include a small amount of new growth at the base of the cutting. This part of the plant is often more active and can speed up the rooting process. To further enhance rooting, you can increase the temperature around the cuttings. If using pot plugs, place them on a radiator or over a heat source, but make sure to use a wooden board to avoid direct heat. In colder months, an electric heating bed can provide optimal conditions for successful propagation. Lastly, using rooting powder like ABT is a reliable method. Soak the base of the cuttings in ABT solution for about 30 minutes to an hour, then plant them directly into the soil. ABT is known for its effectiveness across a wide range of plants and often outperforms other rooting hormones like naphthaleneacetic acid or indole butyric acid. These methods not only save money but also offer a natural and practical way to grow new plants at home. Whether you're a seasoned gardener or just starting out, experimenting with these techniques can greatly improve your success rate in propagating various flowering plants.
