First, the incidence
1. On May 8, 2006, a livestock owner came to the clinic and complained that one adult cow grazing for the first time on an agricultural channel on the same day, and took it home at around 7 pm and found nerves such as molars and tendons twitching. symptom. At the same time, the owner of the animal also reported that on May 5th he also drove an adult cow to another agricultural channel for grazing. The same symptoms occurred in the afternoon, after which the cattle were injected with 2.5% iodoprochlor in 30 ml. Atropine sulfate 5 mL had no effect and it died after 2 hours. Did not pull out eating grass are not disease, according to history, clinical symptoms, laboratory tests, diagnosed as grasshopper disease, and according to the disease treatment, recovered after 1 day.
2. On May 20 and 24, 2006, there were 4 cows that had the same symptoms as the above and were all treated according to the disease. All were cured after 1 day.
Second, the clinical symptoms
Acute cases showed obvious neurological symptoms, limb tremors, unstable walking, swaying, severe fall from time to time, foam on the lips, trismus, head bending to one side or rear, nystagmus, prolonged membrane The erection of the ear, the caudal muscles and hindlimbs showed ankylosing sputum, and even developed into a systemic sputum, in addition, the heart sounds hyperactive, frequent urination, and reduced breathing.
Third, laboratory tests
Blood magnesium decreased by 0.1 to 0.5 mg%, and blood calcium decreased by 3 to 11 mg%, both lower than normal levels.
Fourth, the cause of the disease
During the spring and summer season, grass is rich in protein, but magnesium and calcium are less. Especially in places with high inorganic nitrogen such as agricultural canals and drainage canals, it is more susceptible to disease because ammonium forms insoluble and difficult to absorb ammonium phosphates in the intestine. Magnesium, which prevents the absorption of magnesium, causes the deficiency of magnesium in the body and the decrease of blood magnesium, resulting in the occurrence of a nutritional metabolic disease characterized by systemic muscle twitching.
V. Prevention measures
1. In the summer, it is not advisable to overgraze the fertile grassland or to overeat it, especially during the initial period of grazing.
2. Grazing should be supplemented with various magnesium-containing inorganic materials.
3. After the onset of illness, use a 25% magnesium sulfate solution 50-100 ml, a 10% calcium chloride solution 100-200 ml, and a 10% glucose solution 100-200 ml for one intravenous injection.
4. Intravenous injection or subcutaneous injection with 100-200 ml of 10% magnesium sulfate solution, but the effect is relatively slow.
Six, matters needing attention
1. The symptoms of bovine grasshopper disease are similar to pesticide poisoning, which often misleads some livestock owners and delays the disease.
2. Green grass caries should be found early, early treatment.
3. Intravenous infusion of calcium, magnesium mixture to prevent the infusion rate is too fast causing heart failure and respiratory depression and death.
