Watermelon skin feeding fish species

Freshly fed watermelon rinds are crushed using a mixer, and Quanchipia is added to the water to cultivate oysters, clams, grass carp, and squid. This process is carried out twice daily. Depending on the water quality, 80 to 100 kilograms of watermelon rind is added per acre of water. Alternatively, for every thousand fish, 60 to 80 kilograms of watermelon rind is used so that the fish can directly consume the pulp. In addition, the watermelon rind helps improve water quality by acting as a natural fertilizer, promoting the growth of beneficial microorganisms and algae, which serve as additional food sources for the aquatic species. The key to allowing fish to ingest the watermelon rind directly is to finely chop or puree the pulp, making it easier for them to digest and absorb nutrients.

For dry feeding, watermelon rinds are first peeled with a planer, then sun-dried and ground into a fine powder. This powder is given at a rate of 2 to 3 kilograms per acre of fish pond per day, divided into three feedings. It works best when combined with other commercial or natural feeds to ensure a balanced diet. Using watermelon rind in this way not only reduces feed costs but also provides an environmentally friendly and sustainable option for aquaculture. Farmers often find that this method improves fish health, increases growth rates, and enhances overall productivity in their ponds.
